Gemstones have been mined, appreciated and used in jewellery or decorative pieces for thousands of years. During this time, the technology and practices used for mining, cutting and trading have vastly changed. Nowadays, the environmental and social impacts of the supply chain are a point of interest to many in the gemstone and jewellery industries, with the establishment of more sustainable practices and reliable gemstone traceability methods being of increasing importance.
