SSEF, the Swiss Gemmological Institute, is part of a non-profit Swiss foundation whose aim is to further the science of gemstone testing and gemmological training.
SSEF tests many of the world's most famous and exceptional gemstones. In an effort to share knowledge and passion for gems, we have developed a wide range of online gemmology courses.
Most of our online courses are available free of charge and can be accessed in English, French, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Burmese. Topics covered include Diamonds, Emeralds, Pearls, Rubies, Sapphires, Garnets, Jade, Opals, Spinels, and Tourmalines.
In addition to these free courses, SSEF offers premium online programmes within The Definitive Gemstone Series. The first course in this series, The Emerald Course, is a paid, in-depth learning experience designed for gem professionals and enthusiasts seeking advanced knowledge. The Emerald Course is in English.
